The template in Joomla! terms is the full design, layout and skin of the site. The entire site can run from one to as many templates as you want. Each page in the site can be assigned a different template, or you could have one category.
So your services would be one, whilst your products might be another, with one for the home, one for the contact page and so on, the possibilities are endless.
The template is installed simply by uploading it through the admin panel as a ZIP file, which is then taken apart by the system automatically and installed by Joomla without you doing anything.
OK so nice and easy, why do you need us?
This template needs to be set up and made in such a way that the system knows which files to use and where they live within the file structure. But the worst thing for even a modest developer is that the system runs almost entirely on CSS style sheets, which gives the text colours and formats through the site, and if not correct you will have errors all over.
EVEN WORSE
The templates don’t work correctly when viewed locally. As the system holds them deep in the file system, but they are displayed as if they are in the front of the system, all the image/css/file paths are totally wrong, so when viewed they just look like a huge mess that are broken.
