Three years as Dyson's Christmas party provider: a different rig every year, 15 foot robotic fancy dress, and a queue that forms before we finish setting up.

What Did We Do?

For three years running we were Dyson’s provider for their enormous Christmas parties, with a different rig each year so the activation never went stale.

Some context on these parties: every Dyson staff member gets company time to build their own fancy dress, and these are engineers, so the costumes have motors, lights, sound, fans and moving parts, some standing 15 feet tall. The best part of the job is that guests hunt us out and start a queue before we have finished warming up.

2016: Motion, Bristol

We took over an area of Bristol’s superclub Motion with a 48 camera, 360 degree rig, linked to a huge video wall showing the night’s movies as they were made, with everything also fed to Dyson’s PR team.

2017: Aircraft hangar, Bristol

A 24 camera, 90 degree rig in a huge aircraft hangar, positioned perfectly between the bar and the handmade food stalls. We left a little fatter.

2018: Ashton Gate Stadium, Bristol

A 48 camera rig in a fully blacked out space with a light structure at its centre. Dyson asked for something extra, so we modified our software to add a retro 3D mode: put on a pair of old school red and blue glasses and the movies play with depth. The joy of owning your own software is that it can be tailored to any event.
