Mains power. We brought our own

One Land Rover Discovery, a 36 camera rig, and the worst weather the UK could offer: blizzards at Glencoe, a ravine at Ribblehead, and a downpour in Ingleton.

What Did We Do?

Orillo asked us to help make a car advert showing the Land Rover Discovery in all conditions, all weather, and in the most remote parts of the UK. We provided a 36 camera rig with all the systems, power and weatherproofing, because most of these locations had no power source at all.

In Scotland we froze the Discovery speeding through a deep puddle with Glencoe behind it. The spray hung in the air in the final shot, and a fair amount of it landed on the cameras. Worth it.

Then 300 miles to Ribblehead viaduct in North Yorkshire, where the rig was set up over a 30 foot ravine of waist deep wet moss to catch the car crossing a stone bridge at wheel level, spraying stones and water from a puddle. The shoot ran into darkness, which left us de-rigging in sub zero temperatures in one of the darkest parts of the country.

In Ingleton we set up in a downpour to film the car being power washed. Computers, cameras and wiring were taped up and weatherproofed, and the water stayed out.

The finished film also uses time lapse and star trail footage by Gordon Hayes, with his kind permission.

“Working with New World Designs was a real joy. They not only got involved creatively in the project, but delivered on time every time and went above and beyond to make sure we got the shot we wanted.”

Common Outdoor Production FAQs

Can bullet time shoot outdoors in bad weather?

Yes. This advert was shot in blizzards, gale force winds and heavy rain. The rig is weatherproofed, and when the wind on Glencoe was strong enough to blow it over, we stood it back up and carried on.

What if the location has no power?

We bring our own. Every location on this shoot ran on our own power systems.
