Google called with a week's notice: a carpool karaoke car with motion switched cameras, a 36 camera bullet time rig, and 620 movies emailed out on the day.

What Did We Do?

Google reached out and asked if we could help with a festival they were hosting the following week.

They wanted a car fitted with cameras to capture everything happening inside it, with software that switched between feeds based on movement, built each movie automatically and emailed it to the visitor. They also wanted a bullet time rig on a separate stand, and full staffing for both.

In one week we wrote the software, designed and built a six camera system into the car, made the backdrops, set up a lyric display so participants could sing along, built the activation button and added a social sharing platform to send every video out on site.

It was a frantic week on minimal sleep, and it worked. Everything ran smoothly all day while 50 Cent and Kylie performed a few metres away. The bullet time rig made 300 movies and the car made 320, all emailed the moment they were shot.

James Corden stopped by, which sparked a friendly argument about who invented carpool karaoke. Obviously, it was us.

Common Custom Build FAQs

Can you build something that does not exist yet?

Yes. The carpool karaoke system on this job, cameras, motion switching, lyrics screen, auto edit and email, went from nothing to live in seven days.

Do you staff the activation?

Yes. Both systems here ran all day with full NWD staffing.
