Description
4D Gaussian Splatting is a way of capturing a real performance as a 3D, time-based asset that you can move a virtual camera around in post. Instead of being locked to the angles shot on the day, you can choose framing, lensing and camera movement later, which reduces risk and gives more flexibility in the edit.
The capture holds fine detail such as hair and clothing movement, and it plays back efficiently enough to review quickly and integrate into VFX or virtual environments. For a production, the benefit is simple: you capture the performance once, then gain additional camera options, extended creative control in post, and a reusable digital asset without needing a full CG build.

Traditional 4D volumetric capture records a live performance using a synchronised multi-camera array to produce a moving 3D mesh/model over time.
